Fast Forward One Year

I just rediscovered my blog today and it's fun to recognize the last post was about a project that changed the course of my life. My short film "Pearl" won the "Get LA" contest, lead to my shooting a short film called "The Monstrosity" and this week I am attending the Santa Barbara International Film Festival where it will have its world premiere. I'm still a long way from getting my first feature and I'm still pursuing acting and shooting vids for my YouTube channel SuperCaliListic, but it's amazing to think how much has happened in just one year.

Thanks Jesse for throwing Variety in my lap. Here's hoping Nikki Finke will prove an adequate substitute. (My husband traded in his cell phone for an iPhone last year and now reads Deadline in bed instead of Variety...)

I entered a short film contest!

This project started exactly a month ago when my husband Jesse passed me the daily Variety, "You may not want to do this, but I thought you might be interested in reading it." It was an article about Los Angeles Magazine's short film contest to kick off "Get L.A." I had just gotten back from Sundance and I wanted something to pour my energy into so I took a look. After watching the videos online describing the contest, it seemed like a perfect fit. So, if you are wondering why I fell off the internet radar during the month of February, now you know. I wrote, shot and edited a short film called "Pearl." It feels so gratifying to complete something from beginning to end, and a day early!

Almost Two Years

It's been almost two years since I've posted on this blog. But now I'm back and more narcissistic than ever. Because now I'm going to start posting everything Alyssa - my videos, my photography, my random thoughts, right here on my very own free blogger account owned by the almighty google.

Originally I created this blog as a place for my photography, but then I got distracted by making videos on YouTube. Fast forward two years, now I have two, no THREE youtube channels, two blip channels, and my creative energy is more dispersed than ever. With this in mind I decided it's time to post all my content in one location. And blogger is the spot of choice...this week.

And who will read, watch, ponder all the brilliance coming straight from the heavens and out my lovely fingers onto this page? Well, probably no one. It will just be me congratulating myself and all my accomplishments, and maybe a guardian angel or two watching from over my shoulder.

So, there you have it. I'm more confident and self-indulgent than ever. I'm going to make an amazing blogger. Watch out lone reader, Alyssa Price, you're fabulous.

Lovin' Miami

Jesse took me to Miami for my birthday. We took our time strolling along Collins Avenue, peaking in the hotel lobbies and making note of our favorite pools. My favorite lobby was the Sagamore for their contemporary art collection. The Delano was fun too with an elegant spin on a topsy-turvy Alice in Wonderland type theme. My favorite pool was The Standard, mostly for the sign that read: adult playground. But my fondest memory is of lounging on the outdoor patio furniture at The Shore Club, watching everyone get crazy at the pool party while I sip my frozen mojito and smoke a forbidden cigarette. Yeah baby!

From William Wordsworth

Love this poem by William Wordsworth, discovered it watching the wonderful film named after its title, written by William Inge, directed by Elia Kazan, and starring Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty.

Splendor in the Grass

What though the radiance
which was once so bright
Be now forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing now can take back the hour
Of splendor in the grass,
Of glory in the flower,
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.

-- William Wordsworth
